Bearing Witness on World Suicide Prevention Day
Today, 10 September, is World Suicide Prevention Day. It asks us not for perfect answers, but for courage, presence and care.
Why It Matters
Across the UK and here in Wales, people are finding quiet ways to keep the conversation alive.
In Wigan a Wall of Hope has been created at the rugby club, a place to remember lives lost and to show that support is near.
In Wales, Samaritans Cymru remind us that reaching out, even once, can shift someone’s darkest moment. Swansea University has also brought together people with lived experience to shape prevention work.
The Welsh Government has introduced a new Advisory and Liaison Service for anyone affected by suicide, alongside a ten year strategy called Understanding to guide long term change.
What Feels True
At Guiding Light Coaching we know it is not about tidy solutions. It is about slowing down, listening and making space for someone to say “I’m not okay” without fear.
Gentle Prompts
Send one honest message today: “How are you holding up?” and stay present for the reply.
Share stories that show hope without forcing it.
Learn about resources close to home, like Samaritans Cymru, and keep the number in your phone.
There is no quick fix. But being seen, being heard, and knowing someone is willing to sit alongside us can make all the difference.
